The challenge

GDA runs clinical analysis laboratories in Mexico. Each brand's test catalog lives in an internal system built to operate the lab: intake, processing and delivering results.

A large catalog trapped inside a management system is invisible to the people looking for it: it holds every field needed to operate and none of the ones that help a patient find it.

That is roughly a thousand tests per brand, multiplied by the group's eight brands.

  • No URL of their own: tests did not exist as pages, so there was nothing for a search engine to index or for a patient to share.
  • Operational data, not decision data: the system stores the code and the technical name, not the indication, the duration or when results arrive.
  • Unworkable at scale: any solution requiring a thousand records to be filled in before publishing the first one was never going to start.

The cost was twofold: traffic that never arrived, and a support team answering by phone the questions a record answers on its own.

The solution

We turned the lab master data into a publishable catalog: every test with its own indexable URL and a record that gets enriched gradually, without blocking the launch.

The design decision holding the whole model together is that no editorial field is mandatory.

One URL per test

  • Every test in the catalog becomes its own page, with a stable, indexable address.
  • The content model is replicated across the group's eight brands, at roughly a thousand entries each.

A record the internal system cannot produce

  • Test image, so the page has something to show beyond a technical name.
  • Indications broken out by patient type: general, male, female and pediatric.
  • Estimated test duration and result delivery time, the two questions that come in by phone most often.

Every field optional, and that is the point

  • With bare master data the record already publishes, simple but complete and valid.
  • The team enriches test by test where it pays off, so nobody has to fill in a thousand records to start.
  • Bulk editing over CSV and Excel, image linking included, to operate at catalog scale.

Architecture and technology

  • Magnolia CMS with an extended record content model and one URL per item.
  • Bulk import and editing over CSV and Excel.
  • Multibrand platform shared with the rest of the group's sites.

The result

The catalog stopped being internal data and became content that can be found, shared and improved without rebuilding anything.

Starting point

  • Test catalog available only inside the laboratory management system.
  • Zero indexable pages for individual tests.
  • Patient information handled by phone or in person.

Results

  • Roughly a thousand tests per brand with their own indexable URL.
  • Model replicated across the group's eight brands.
  • Records with image, indications by patient type and test and delivery times.
  • Bulk editing over CSV and Excel in operation, image linking included.

Strategic impact

  • Publishing no longer requires an upfront data entry effort: the record ships simple and grows later.
  • The group can prioritize which tests are worth the work instead of treating them all the same.
