The challenge

Servientrega is a leading logistics and courier company in Colombia, specialized in last mile delivery. As ecommerce grew, a growing share of its customers came to run their stores on Shopify.

When onboarding a customer is paperwork rather than an install, the bottleneck is not the service but the path to start using it.

The setup process required human intervention on both sides and did not match the pace of the channel.

  • Long onboarding: activating a merchant involved manual steps that stretched out over time.
  • Load on customer support: every activation tied up the team in configuration work instead of support.
  • Fragile data transfer: without integration, store, user and rate information traveled with room for error.

The cost was twofold: merchants slow to start shipping, and an internal team repeating a configuration that could resolve itself.

The solution

An application was developed to natively integrate the last mile service with Shopify, so onboarding happens inside the store rather than in a separate circuit.

The goal was not to add a feature but to remove the paperwork: connect both platforms so the merchant becomes operational without manual handling.

A native Shopify app

  • Application connecting the store to the courier services, installed from within the Shopify environment.
  • Store and user activation resolved by the integration, with no support team involvement.
  • Shipping method configuration available from the same flow.

Data that travels without intermediaries

  • Operational information synchronized between both platforms, with no manual entry in between.
  • Rate loading tied to the store, so the merchant operates on its own terms from the start.

Certification before release

  • Extensive certification testing on store and user creation.
  • Verification of shipping method configuration and rate loading.
  • Validation of the full circuit before making it available to merchants.

Architecture and technology

  • Native Shopify application integrated with last mile services.
  • Synchronization of stores, users, shipping methods and rates.

The result

Activating a merchant stopped being a handoff between two teams and became an install inside the store.

Starting point

  • Manual, drawn out onboarding for every Shopify merchant.
  • Customer support team occupied with configuration tasks.
  • Data transfer between platforms with no automation.

Results

  • Native integration in operation between Shopify stores and the last mile service.
  • Store and user creation verified through certification testing.
  • Shipping methods and rates configurable from the same circuit.

Strategic impact

  • The time between a merchant deciding and its first shipment shortens without adding headcount.
  • Capacity to onboard customers is no longer tied to the size of the support team.
